The purpose of this club shall be to promote and further the pleasure of horseback riding and equine handling, to encourage good horsemanship and proper conduct among horsemen and horsewomen, to encourage proper and humane handling and care of equines, to prevent cruelty to animals, and to promote the education of all members in the use, handling, and development of all equines and horsemanship. ARTICLE II OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, AND ELECTED POSITIONS Section 1. The officers of this club shall be president, vice-president, secretary, and treasurer. Section 2. President. The president shall preside over all meetings of the organization and board of directors. He/she shall perform such duties as may be prescribed in these by-laws or assigned to him/her by the board. He/she shall conduct meetings according to parliamentary procedure. He/she shall be entitled to select a nominating committee to select officers for the coming year. Section 3. Vice President. The vice- president shall act as an aide to the president and shall perform the duties of the president in his/her absence. Section 4. Secretary. The secretary shall keep an accurate record of all meetings of the organization and the board and shall perform such other duties as may be delegated to him/her by the board of directors or the president. Section 5. Treasurer. The treasurer shall receive all monies of the organization, shall keep an accurate record of receipts and expenditures, and shall pay only expenses incurred by the organization. The treasurer shall present a statement of account at every meeting of the organization and at any time when requested by the board of directors. The treasurer’s books shall be reviewed and signed by the board of directors at the end of each term of office. At least two officers or board members shall assist the treasurer at the end of each show with counting and preparing the money for deposit. Section 6. Board of Directors. There shall be a board of directors consisting of three adult members (19 years or older) and two youth members (14 to 18 years of age). The retiring President shall serve as a board member for one year following the expiration of his/ her term as president. Adult directors shall serve a term of three years. The youth directors will serve a one year term. At each annual meeting, one adult director and the youth directors shall be elected. The board shall have the authority to select its chairperson and other officers as the board may deem necessary. Section 7. Other Elected Positions. At each annual meeting, there shall be elected a points keeper, newsletter editor, and web master. The term for each position is one year, and any member may hold one or more of the positions during any year. The point keeper shall be responsible for compiling and maintaining all horse show points at shows sponsored by the club. This position also has responsibility for reporting a record of all points of a show within ten days to any association in which the club holds membership or, upon request, to any organization in which a club member holds membership. Current points shall be available at each show. The point keeper shall submit an updated copy of the points after each show to the webmaster for inclusion on the web site. The newsletter editor shall be responsible for gathering information and disseminating it to all club members in a timely manner. This position shall submit a copy of the newsletter to the web master for inclusion on the web site. The web master shall be responsible for creating and maintaining the official web site for the club. Membership is on an annual basis, with dues payable January 1 each year. The only exception is for new members who join the club after the last show of the year. Their membership shall include the remainder of that year and the entire calendar year thereafter. Section 2. There shall be two classes of membership - a regular membership and an honorary membership. An honorary membership will be awarded only as deemed appropriate by the membership. Section 3. The annual fee for an individual membership is $12.00, which entitles that person to one vote in club business. The annual fee for a family membership is $20.00, which grants two votes. Monies derived from membership dues in this club may be used only for the reasons outlined in Article I. Section 4. Annual dues shall be determined by the voting members. ARTICLE V AMENDMENTS TO BY-LAWS Section 1. Proposed amendments shall be announced at one monthly meeting and voted on at the next monthly meeting. Before a vote is taken upon a proposed amendment, a majority of the voting members shall be present at the meeting in person or by proxy. Only returned proxies will be counted. Points will be given on the basis of the point system 5-4-3-2-1 for first, second, third, fourth, and fifth, respectively. Year end awards are given for championship and reserve championship in each class. When economically possible, recognition and/or awards will be given to third through fifth place in each class. All profits collected from the fun shows are earmarked for club operating expenses and, when economically possible, for year end awards Prior to the beginning of the show season, the President shall appoint a show committee to plan, organize, and direct the fun shows for the entire show season. After the last fun show, the show committee shall meet to budget for year end awards. This committee’s recommendations will be made to the general membership for approval. Section 2. Nominations. Only club members who nominate prior to showing are eligible for year end awards. No points will count toward year end awards in any class unless that nominated horse or exhibitor has participated at least three times in that class during the show season. A annual nomination fee of $4.00 per class must be paid before showing in that class. Points earned before nominating will not be counted toward year end awards. Section 3. Class High Point. Awarded to the horse or exhibitor that accumulates the most points in a specific class during the show season. In showmanship, horsemanship, and lead line the points are collected on the exhibitor, so it is the exhibitor who must show 3 times  the horse can change. However, in all other classes, it is the horse that must participate three times. The rider can change. Section 4. Overall High Point Awards. Overall high point awards are based on one horse and one rider/exhibitor combination. The rider/exhibitor must nominate prior to showing and show the same horse in nominated classes at a minimum of three shows to be eligible for these awards. Categories are: High Point Horse - Junior rider 13 and under High Point Horse - Junior rider 14 through 18 High Point Horse - Adult rider 19 and over High Point Non-Riding Horse - Includes all halter classes, yearling halter, yearling longe line, and all showmanship classes. ORGANIZATION Section 1. The name of this organization shall be the “MID-MISSOURI SADDLE CLUB.” Section 2. Purpoll be submitted to the highest ranking club official at the show, beginning with president, vice-president, then secretary. 2. The intent of the rules is to standardize the shows to give everyone the same opportunity. 3. It should be recognized that the saddle club’s fun shows are organized for all levels of experience and income, while encouraging participation and good sportsmanship. 4. Unless a rider’s age or type of horse is specifically stated on the show bill, all classes will be open to all age groups, horses, ponies, donkeys, and mules. A horse or mule competing in an open class will be judged using the appropriate breed standard for that horse or mule. 5. English tack will be required in all English classes and western tack will be required in all western classes. However, neither English nor western attire is required for any class. No training gear will be allowed in any class other than the exhibition classes. Protective head gear is allowed in any class, and riders will not be penalized for wearing helmets. ASTM/SEI helmets are required for any over fences class. 6. Not all classes included are available every year. Some classes are eliminated from year to year and different ones are added. The Class Rules will have rules for all classes that are now offered or have been in the past. When new classes are developed, they will be included in the Class Rules. However, class placings made by a show judge are final. 7. Junior horses ridden in a snaffle bit or bosal in ANY class may be ridden two-handed. Junior horses ridden in a shanked bit MUST be ridden one-handed. 8. The judge and club officers will be treated with respect, courtesy, and cooperation. No person, exhibitor, owner, or otherwise, whether exhibitor or spectator, shall exhibit abusive or threatening behavior toward the judge and/or officials. This behavior can result in the person being dismissed from the class and/or show grounds with no fees being refunded. Depending on the severity of the situation, other punitive measures may be taken by the board of directors. 9. No alcoholic beverages are allowed on the grounds. 10. Horses and/or exhibitors must show in a class in order for points to be awarded for that class, even if there is only one horse entered in that class. 11. Persons attending any show or event held at the show grounds are required to observe reasonable safety rules as established by the club. The club shall hold general membership meetings on a monthly basis from October through June. The meeting date is to be determined by the general membership at the January meeting.
